The Story of Cholera to help in the Philippines
Four million people were made homeless by the typhoon that hit the Philippines this month and are at increased risk of contracting waterborne diseases such as cholera. Cholera is endemic there and a lack of safe drinking water, poor sanitation, and crowded conditions make the region ripe for an outbreak. (Read story.)
Recognizing the value of having the The Story of Cholera available in Tagalog—the national language of the Philippines—Carole Parker (GHMP Board member) immediately responded by organizing the effort in the San Francisco Bay area. Read more.
She was impressed by the outpouring of support and number of offers to narrate the film. Joanna Lagera Chin did the narration, and we are very grateful for her help. The Tagalog version of the film is now available on our website, and can be freely downloaded to be used offline.
The Story of Cholera has been used extensively in the cholera epidemics in Haiti and West Africa and has received worldwide recognition. The film is currently narrated in 24 languages, and has been watched in virtually every country. In several countries, the video is used for general education on sanitation, hygiene, and waterborne illnesses.
