Certified Nurse Midwife and Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner. Karen is faculty at Bastyr University’s Department of Midwifery and research nurse practitioner at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington. She has been a midwifery trainer and consultant for several INGOs including Health Leadership International, PRONTO International, Medical Teams International, PATH, and Jhpiego. Over the past 30 years, Dr. Hays has worked as a nurse and midwife in numerous countries in Asia, Africa, and Latin America, in addition to practicing in both home and hospital birth settings in the U.S.
