John is the former Director of Orthopedic and Internal Medicine Education in the Emergency Department at Hennepin County Medical Center, Minneapolis, where he worked for 35 years, introducing the use of video in teaching and research in emergency airway management. John was one of the founders of the U.S. branch of Doctors Without Borders, a member of its first board of directors, and President of MSF/USA from 1996–2000.
